Set a Production Target

Posted on April 5, 2013 by Sandy Pardue

We have seen dental practices increase their income simply by naming a production target and becoming aware of how much is being produced.

All providers in your dental practice should have an individual hourly production target. Targets are shared with the staff so that he entire team is working towards achieving practice goals.

Now the question becomes, “how do you set a reachable target?” Many offices pick arbitrary numbers that are not based on anything that has actually been achieved in the past and without planning for future growth.

DENTIST: Start by discovering what each dentist in the practice is currently producing and add 15%. Targets will need to be adjusted when you have fee increases.
HYGIENIST: The hygienist’s daily target should be at least 3 times their daily rate, including benefits. After learning their daily target, divide by the number of hours worked in the day to get their hourly target.

Add the hourly targets for all of the providers and you will now have the hourly target for the office as a whole.
