How is Your Attitude in the Office?
One of the best attributes a team member can have is a positive attitude.
I can’t recall seeing a floundering practice filled with enthusiastic staff. I meet a lot of people in my business and it is not difficult to recognize the staff members that SHINE. It is also very easy to see the ones that make our office life difficult. I am referring to the folks that seldom say good morning, much less smile as you pass them in the hall. No matter what you do, they are critical of it. When you set up time for a meeting, they wait to be told that it is starting and rarely bring a pen or pencil to take notes. They worry about what food is going to be served, rather than how productive the meeting will be. They may be negative about new ideas or not comply with office poilcy and procedures because they believe it applies to everyone but them.
Did you know that attitude, whether it’s good or bad, is contagious? I have observed great team members with good attitudes get discouraged by staff that would rather by anywhere but in the office.
If it is your job to hire staff, make it a point to listen for enthusiasm and to watch them move. You want someone that moves quickly, things fast and speaks with confidence.
